ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S®
ENGAGES AND INSPIRES JACKSON HOLE, WYOMING
Participants Raise Critically Needed Funds for Alzheimer’s Care,
Support and Research
Jackson, WY 8/10/12 – The Alzheimer’s Association invites Jackson
residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by
participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Senior Center
of Jackson Hole, located at 830 E. Hansen, will be the new site of the
Walk on Saturday, August 25th at 9:30 am. You can sign up to walk at the
event or online at alz.org/walk. Admission is free!
The Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s
sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals
living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing
well beyond today’s estimated 5.4 million Americans living with
Alzheimer’s. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk.
It’s an opportunity to learn about Alzheimer's disease and how
to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy to Alzheimer’s
research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services.
In addition to the 1 or 2.5-mile walk, participants will enjoy the Senior
Fair, BBQ, raffle and music starting at 11am. Martha Stearn, MD and Carol
Taylor, LCSW of St. John’s Institute for Cognitive Health will be
speaking on memory loss at 9:45 am.
All donations received through the walk registration will go to the national
Alzheimer’s Association for research, care and support. All raffle
proceeds will benefit local programs at the Senior Center and St. John’s
Institute for Cognitive Health. The raffle proceeds will go to the home
care services the Senior Center provides for those with Alzheimer’s,
as well as the following initiatives at St. John’s Institute for
- Support groups for patients, families and caregivers
- Hungry Brain Book Club led by Martha Stearn, MD
- Dementia-specific caregiver trainings
- Lending library with resources on memory disorders and care giving
- Community presentations featuring Alzheimer's experts
“There has never been a greater need to join in the fight against
Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s,”
said Meredith Faulkner, an Alzheimer’s Association affiliate. “Funds
raised will provide care and support services to the residents of Jackson
living with Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed
research.” Start or join a team today at alz.org/walk.
