Seasonal Flu Vaccine Clinic Dates Announced

St. John’s Family Health and Urgent Care, in the Smith’s Plaza, will be offering flu vaccines on Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, November 7 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian.

According to Jim Little, Jr., MD, the medical director of Urgent Care, "Everyone over the age of 6 months should get a flu shot, but this is especially true for high-risk groups including children, people over the age of 65, pregnant women, and people with serious medical conditions like asthma, emphysema, diabetes, and other chronic medical conditions."

Urgent Care has several different options for the vaccine, depending on the age of the patient. These include a spray, a shot, and a high dose especially for patients over 65.

The cost for a regular dose is $30. The cost for a high dose is $45.

Each year, experts from Food and Drug Administration (FDA), World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other institutions study virus samples collected from around the world. They identify the influenza viruses that are the most likely to cause illness during the upcoming flu season so that people can be protected against them through vaccination.
