Social Services at St. John’s Health

Inpatient social services

At St. John’s Health, we want to make sure that both our patients and their families have resources that can meet any of their needs. The St. John’s social services department is made up of master-level trained social workers and professional counselors who provide psychological, social, and emotional support to patients and loved ones. We have strong ties with the community and can provide you with referrals to local resources to overcome the mental and physical challenges of medical complications.

Through the social services department, patients and families have access to:
  • Crisis intervention
  • Stress reduction
  • Treatment for trauma (EMDR)
  • Discharge planning
  • Referrals to specialized services in the community

In addition to the above services, we also provide support groups for patients, families, and the community. These include help for bereavement, cancer survivors, patients suffering from chronic pain, and post-partum depression.

Mental Health resource line

We understand that seeking help can feel overwhelming, and you may not know where to turn. St. John’s maintains a mental health resource telephone line, which is available to anyone, including those struggling with issues from substance abuse to family members concerned about a loved one.

Call 307.203.7880 to be connected with a licensed mental health professional at St. John’s. This service is available Monday–Friday from 8 am–4 pm. Messages left on the resource line will be returned within 24 hours.

For help with a mental health crisis, contact the Jackson Hole Community Counseling Center’s 24/7 crisis line at 307.733.2046. In an emergency, call 911.

Helping You Figure out What You Need

Too often patients do not receive counseling or emotional support because they cannot see past the problem to find a solution. We do not want the burden of figuring out what you need to be put solely on you. By speaking with a patient or their family, a member of the social services team can help you explore options for support. Often talking through a situation and learning more about available resources can be a tremendous help, and we want to make sure you know about all of your options.
