On September 10, St. John’s Health, St. John’s Health Foundation, Governor Mark Gordon, and community members gathered to celebrate the start of construction on the Hitching Post Apartments—St. John’s Health’s largest workforce housing project to date.

Located at 460 East Broadway, the Hitching Post Apartments will provide 72 deed-restricted homes reserved exclusively for St. John’s Health workers. The development includes 22 one-bedroom, 48 two-bedroom, and 2 three-bedroom units, creating long-term housing security for staff and their families.

Governor Gordon spoke to the significance of the project, highlighting the connection between housing and access to healthcare in Wyoming.

“Adequate care depends on having a workforce, and a workforce really depends on having a place to live,” said Gordon. “Communities like Jackson are stepping up to meet this challenge, ensuring that essential medical care remains available in our state.”

The Governor praised the collaborative effort that dedicated $24 million in SPET funding to bring the project forward, noting the regional impact of St. John’s Health for residents and visitors across northwest Wyoming.

St. John’s Health CEO Jeff Sollis echoed the importance of secure housing, sharing his own experience commuting from Victor, Idaho.

“The reality is that many people need to live close to the health system in order to provide great care to our patients, especially in emergencies,” Sollis said. “It’s not just about affordability—it’s about stability. Housing insecurity takes a toll on individuals and, ultimately, on our ability to retain the talented caregivers our community relies on.”

St. John’s Health Foundation President Anna Olson reminded attendees that the Hitching Post Apartments will benefit hundreds of staff members for years to come.

“This project is about more than buildings—it’s about creating homes for the people who care for us,” Olson said.

Thanks to generous community support, St. John’s Health Foundation is just over $1 million away from reaching its $13.7 million philanthropy goal. Every gift, no matter the size, will help close the campaign—ensuring caregivers have a secure place to call home.

With site work complete, construction crews are preparing to pour concrete in the coming weeks. The project is expected to be finished in late 2027.
