Local Students Knit for Newborns
A bundle of tiny, handmade hats recently arrived at the Birth Center at St. John’s Health—knit with care by middle-schoolers from Teton Literacy Center’s SOAR Knit for Good program.
During a special visit, students saw how their hats would become part of a newborn’s first moments and heard from Beverly Boyce, RN, Clinical Coordinator for Obstetrics. She shared her experience as a nurse and encouraged students to consider careers in healthcare.
The group asked thoughtful questions about caring for St. John’s tiniest patients and the path to becoming a medical professional. Each student also shared what inspired the colors and patterns in their hat.
“It was a joy to hear the heart they put into each piece,” said Beverly. “If even one student walks away dreaming of a future in health care, that means the world to me.”
Knit for Good began through the After-the-Bell programs at Jackson, Colter, and Munger Mountain Elementary schools, and now continues with new groups like the one at Teton Literacy Center—helping students connect, create, and contribute.
St. John’s Health and St. John’s Health Foundation thank the students, teachers, and volunteers who brought this meaningful project to life.
