St. John's hosts Heart Summit on August 1

The public is invited to attend the St. John’s Medical Center Heart Summit, Heart Attacks and Heart Failure: Living with Heart Disease in a Small Town, on August 1 at 7 pm at The Wort Hotel in Jackson.

Keynote speaker Jeffrey L. Anderson, MD, cardiologist from Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute, will share new research and findings on national guidelines, trials, and agents for preventing and managing heart disease. Dr. Anderson's presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with physicians from the community who help prevent and treat heart disease.

“Living with heart disease can be daunting, particularly in a rural area,” said St. John’s cardiologist Bill Mullen, MD. “Together with our associates at Intermountain Healthcare, which is at the forefront of research and innovation, we can serve as resources to help clarify and streamline the management of heart disease.”

Dr. Anderson is an international leader in the cardiovascular community and has been an innovator in many important areas. He was the principal investigator of the first randomized clinical trial of thrombolysis for acute myocardial infarction and the principal investigator on the first randomized trial of beta blockers for the treatment of heart failure. He received his education and training at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Stanford University Hospital.

The panel discussion, facilitated by St. John's CEO Paul Beaupré, MD, will focus on the diagnosis, medical management, and support available to heart patients living in Jackson Hole and other rural communities in the region. Panelists include cardiologists Bill Mullen, MD, and Peter Weiss, MD (from Intermountain Heart Institute); family practice provider Jim Little, Jr., MD; radiologist Sean Haling, MD; and an emergency medicine specialist.

The Wort is located at 50 Glenwood Street, and refreshments will be served.
