When Should You Go to an Emergency Room?

Emergency room visits are intended for more serious, life-threatening injuries or medical conditions. As the name suggests, the only time it is appropriate to take a trip to the emergency room is when your injury or condition is an emergency that requires immediate attention.

Some conditions and injuries that are treated in emergency rooms include:

  • Severe blood loss
  • Chest pain
  • Trouble breathing
  • Broken bones
  • Loss of vision
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Poisoning
  • Vomiting or coughing up blood
  • Signs and symptoms of a heart attack

If you do not believe your condition or injury is life-threatening, visit an urgent care for the medical assistance you need.
