Visitor Policy

What to know before visiting a patient

St. John’s Health is has implemented changes to our visitor policy to help reduce disease transmission and keep patients and staff safe. We adjust our visitor restrictions in accordance with public health risks. Visitors are a wonderful way to help patients feel happier and more at ease, and we encourage friends and loved ones to visit during appropriate hours.

The visitor guidelines require the following on Campus and Clinics:
  • Suggested visiting hours are 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Masking is optional for all visitors and patients unless:
    • Positive for COVID-19 in prior 10 days (21 if immunocompromised)
    • Symptomatic for COVID-19 (fever, chills, cough, short of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
    • Known exposure to COVID-19 positive person within the prior 10 days
  • Please refrain from visiting if you have respiratory or flu-like symptoms
  • Some visits may be restricted due to the patient’s condition, or upon the request of the patient
  • If you want to bring a balloon to the hospital, please make sure it is made of mylar and not latex. Latex is not allowed in the facility due to staff and patient allergies.
  • In most cases visitors are permitted for non-COVID-19 patients
  • No visitors are permitted with illness or symptoms of COVID-19
  • No visitors are to visit patients that are in COVID-19 isolation
    • iPad and window visits are available for COVID-19 patients
    • Compassionate care visits are also allowed for COVID-19 patients with physician and manager approval
  • Main entrance will be open from 5 am – 7 pm, Monday – Friday. The main entrance will be locked outside these hours, weekends, and holidays. All hospital business must enter through the emergency room if the main entrance is locked. Employees may use one of the three main employee entrances to access the building.

Urgent Care and Emergency Department:

  • One healthy adult can accompany patient and is permitted to stay at the discretion of the ED/UC staff and physicians
  • For pediatric patients both healthy guardians can accompany patient for Emergency Department visit
  • Surgical/procedure or KN95 masks must be worn by all visitors for the duration of the visit, including in exam room
  • If patient is COVID-19 positive no visitors will be admitted. *Exception is pediatric patients who can have one healthy guardian accompany them.
  • Please no visitors under 12 years of age
  • Please refrain from visiting if you have respiratory or flu-like symptoms

Sage Living:

  • Visitor restrictions are determined by the outbreak status of each neighborhood. Please check in at the front desk for current restrictions on each neighborhood.
  • Per CMS, visitors need to maintain the core principles of COVID-19. Read about these core principles.

Choices Café:

  • Open for take away orders only
  • Eating is not permitted in the hospital lobby

Exceptions and additional rules may apply, and the temporary visitor restrictions are subject to change.
