Living Center talk to present New View of Aging

The public is invited to learn about the Eden Alternative principles that guide the care of residents at St. John’s Living Center. Jill Vitale-Aussem, president and CEO of the Eden Alternative, will speak on “The Eden Alternative and a New View of Aging” on Monday, May 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the lobby of St. John’s Medical Center.

“We have been integrating the Eden principles at the Living Center for many years,” said Malenda Hoelscher, executive director of senior living at St. John’s Medical Center. “We firmly believe, as the Eden philosophy embraces, that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow. We look forward to expanding these principles in our new Living Center.”

St. John’s Living Center is a member of the Eden Registry, which includes organizations that are deeply committed to transforming traditional models of care into approaches that put individuals first.

Care at Eden-registered communities is a collaborative partnership between caregivers and care receivers. Care partner teams strive to enhance well-being by eliminating the three plagues: loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.

Members of the Eden Registry form a dedicated group of change agents committed to the creation of vibrant, life-affirming living environments, where everyone has opportunities for growth, regardless of their age or abilities.
