St. John's Health speaker to discuss relationship between food and mental health

Psychiatrist and author Drew Ramsey, MD, will present “Feed Your Mental Health” on Tuesday, February 25, 6:00–7:00 pm at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming. Dr. Ramsey’s talk is a featured presentation of St. John’s Health Words on Wellness and the Cognitive Health speaker series.

“In 2018, the Community Health Needs Assessment identified mental health as the primary health issue in Teton County,” said Julia Heemstra, director of wellness at St. John’s Health. “Even with evidence-based solutions, treatment often overlooks a critical factor: what people eat. Dr. Ramsey, an expert in the new field of nutritional psychiatry, will offer insights into what foods promote and erode mental well-being, and how to boost mood in the winter through lifestyle changes.”

Tickets are $10 and are available at www.stjohns.health/wordsonwellness. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and attendees will have access to Museum galleries prior to the presentation. A book signing will follow.

Drew Ramsey, MD, is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and one of psychiatry’s leading proponents of using nutritional interventions to advance mental health. Board certified in psychiatry and neurology, he founded The Brain Food Clinic in New York City, offering treatment and consultation for depression, anxiety, and emotional wellness concerns. His media work includes two recent TEDx talks, a video series with Big Think, the BBC documentary Food on the Brain, and articles in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, Atlantic.com, Prevention, Lancet Psychiatry, and NPR.
