Recommended Routine Screenings

General Annual Exams

An annual gynecologic visit supports your reproductive and overall health. During your exam, you can discuss changes, concerns, and preventive screenings including:

  • Family planning and abortion care
  • Contraception
  • STD/STI screening
  • Perimenopause and menopause
  • Evaluation and treatment for pelvic organ prolapse
  • Evaluation and treatment of pelvic pain
  • Pelvic health concerns
  • Menstrual changes

Pelvic Exams

Pelvic exams help detect issues such as ovarian or uterine abnormalities.

  • Ages 21–39: every 1–3 years for healthy women
  • Ages 40+: annually
  • Frequency may increase with symptoms or abnormal screening results

Breast Exams & Mammograms

  • Ages 25–39: clinical breast exam every 1–3 years
  • Age 40+: annual mammograms or as recommended by your provider

Pap Smears

Pap smears screen for cervical cancer and are separate from pelvic exams.

  • Ages 21–29: every 3 years
  • Ages 30–65: every 5 years with HPV co-testing (or every 3 years with Pap alone)
  • May discontinue after age 65, depending on history and risk

Your provider will create a personalized screening plan based on your health history and comfort level.
