Marsha Sensat named new Chief Nursing Officer at St. John's Health

Marsha K. Sensat, Chief of NursingSt. John's Medical Center is pleased to announce Marsha K. Sensat as Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Sensat is an experienced healthcare leader, with more than 26 years of progressive nurse leadership experience during her professional tenure. Most recently, she served as Chief Nursing Officer at Pikes Peak Regional Hospital & Surgical Center in Woodland Park, CO.

"The role of nursing and nurse leadership is vital to providing the best possible patient care," said CEO Paul Beaupré, MD. "I look forward to Marsha's contributions with focus on patient safety, quality of care, and patient and family experience." Sensat will oversee and provide executive leadership to the nursing teams across all of St. John's inpatient and outpatient services and physician practices.

Upon the retirement of former CNO Joan Palmer, RN, in November 2018, St. John's began an intensive search for the best individual to fill this post. Approximately 25 individuals applied as candidates, from which three external candidates and two internal candidates were selected for full-day onsite interviews with nursing leadership, administrative team, and nurses from various St. John's patient care areas. Following a debriefing with all interview panelists, two candidates were called back to interview with the Board of Trustees and the St. John's Medical Staff. Based on input from the second round of interviews, Sensat was selected for the role. Her first day as St. John's CNO was April 1.

In addition to extensive experience and education, Sensat was selected for her experience in small resort communities. "She really seemed to understand the challenges of operating in this environment but also appreciates working in a smaller facility," according to the recruitment committee. Other strong qualifications include a strong acute care background, creative problem solving expertise, and extensive policy and accreditation experience. Sensat earned BS and MS degrees in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing.

“I'm honored to be a part of the St. John’s Medical Center team and look forward to serving our community through the continued excellent care that St. John’s provides,” said Sensat.
