Breast health presentation to feature Huntsman Cancer Institute breast imaging specialist, panel of experts

The community is invited to attend a presentation by Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), St. John's Health (SJMC), and Jackson Hole Medical Imaging about the latest developments in breast imaging as well as local services for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The event will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 7 pm at the Wort Hotel. Refreshments will be provided.

Keynote speaker Phoebe Freer, MD, a Huntsman radiologist, will present on advances in breast cancerPhoebe Freer, MD imaging, including the latest screening guidelines and what additional testing should be done for women with increased risks.

"The affiliation of St. John’s Medical Center with Huntsman Cancer Institute allows us to provide community and clinical education on important medical topics," said SJMC communications officer Karen Connelly. "We are very pleased to bring Dr. Freer’s expertise in breast imaging to our community."

Following Dr. Freer’s presentation, a panel of specialists will describe St. John’s team approach in the continuum of breast health services, from routine screening to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. They will also explain the significance of the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence accreditation and the value of the ongoing affiliation between SJMC and HCI.

Dr. Freer serves as the Chief of the Breast Imaging section in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah Health. She previously served on the faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. A leading expert in breast imaging, Dr. Freer has written numerous scientific and educational publications and book chapters. She has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally and has trained over 2,800 radiologists on the use of breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography). A strong advocate for breast cancer screening, she is a Breast Cancer Screening Leader with the American College of Radiology.
