The community is invited to attend a presentation by Huntsman Cancer Institute
(HCI), St. John's Medical Center (SJMC), and Jackson Hole Medical
Imaging about the latest developments in breast imaging as well as local
services for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The event will
be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 7 pm at the Wort Hotel. Refreshments
will be provided.
Keynote speaker Phoebe Freer, MD, a Huntsman radiologist, will present
on advances in breast cancer imaging, including the latest screening guidelines and what additional
testing should be done for women with increased risks.
"The affiliation of St. John’s Medical Center with Huntsman
Cancer Institute allows us to provide community and clinical education
on important medical topics," said SJMC communications officer Karen
Connelly. "We are very pleased to bring Dr. Freer’s expertise
in breast imaging to our community."
Following Dr. Freer’s presentation, a panel of specialists will describe
St. John’s team approach in the continuum of breast health services,
from routine screening to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. They
will also explain the significance of the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
accreditation and the value of the ongoing affiliation between SJMC and HCI.
Dr. Freer serves as the Chief of the Breast Imaging section in the Department
of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the University of Utah Health. She
previously served on the faculty at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard
Medical School. A leading expert in breast imaging, Dr. Freer has written
numerous scientific and educational publications and book chapters. She
has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally and has trained
over 2,800 radiologists on the use of breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography).
A strong advocate for breast cancer screening, she is a Breast Cancer
