PSA: Work begins to ready St. John’s campus for Sage Living construction

St. John's Health is removing an aging building located on the southwest corner of the hospital campus as it readies for the groundbreaking of Sage Living this spring. The building being demolished is located on East Broadway Ave. Decades old, the building has served multiple purposes. It was originally used as an office for the hospital administrator. More recently it has been used as storage and staging for the hospital's construction department. "We considered salvaging it," said facilities director Jim Johnston, "but it has truly outlived its useful life. It served us well for many years, and we will be recycling what we can as part of the demolition process."

The building is being removed to replace parking spaces that will become unavailable once construction begins on Sage Living, the community's new senior living community. Sage Living, once completed, will provide three neighborhoods for long term care, including memory support, and one care neighborhood for rehabilitation services.

"We are looking forward to getting started on Sage Living," said Johnston, "and we appreciate everyone's patience as we move from the planning phase to construction for this important new facility.”

Despite a facility that is nearly 30 years old, the Living Center has earned many prestigious awards for its high quality of care, including the 2019 US News & World Report Top Nursing Homes award.

"We are reminded again, as we begin this project, how fortunate we are to live in a community that values care for seniors," said CEO Paul Beaupré, MD. Funding for Sage Living comes from the Specific Purpose Excise Tax and a partnership between St. John's Health and St. John's Hospital Foundation. To learn more, visit ANewHomeForANewAge.org.
