St. John's Home Health & Hospice Recognized as a We Honor Veterans Partner

St. John's Home Health & Hospice Recognized as a We Honor Veterans Partner

To provide care and support that honor the important contributions made by veterans, St. John’s Home Health & Hospice has become a national partner of We Honor Veterans. This pioneering campaign was developed by National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“We want to deliver our care to veterans and their families in the most appropriate way possible, having sensitivity to their specific needs,” said Katie Abbott, director of St. John’s Home Health & Hospice. “As a We Honor Veterans partner, we have access to ongoing veteran-centered education for our staff and volunteers.”

By recognizing the unique needs of veterans who are facing a life-limiting illness, St. John’s Home Health & Hospice is better able to support veterans and their families with end-of-life care. In cases where there might be specific needs related to the veteran’s military service, combat experience, or other traumatic events, St. John’s Home Health & Hospice will have access to appropriate training and resources from We Honor Veterans.

“We thank St. John’s Home Health & Hospice for partnering in the We Honor Veterans program,” says NHPCO president & CEO Edo Banach. “We Honor Veterans partners are committed to providing quality care to the veteran patients they serve.”

We Honor Veterans provides resources that focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment.

“The Veterans Administration shares a common goal with our nation’s hospices, and that is to provide the best possible care specifically tailored for veterans, meeting their goals of care in their preferred setting. As we focus on working together and unite our services and skills, We Honor Veterans will channel our combined strengths directly to veterans, wherever they are receiving care,” added Banach.
