  • Categories: Class

About This Event

A six-week course presented by St. John's

Challenged by your child’s behavior? Tired of meltdowns, bedtime battles, challenging morning routines, or occasional aggressive behavior? What is it that our children really need from us to move away from these kinds of behaviors and toward something more productive?

Class topics will include:

  • The emotional world of parenting: Our children’s strong emotions and our strong reactions
  • Understanding our children's development and brain development
  • Challenging behaviors - where do they come from?
  • Discipline, limits, and reasonable expectations
  • Teaching our children skills: routines, responsibilities, & family agreements
  • It’s all about the relationship: Connection, encouragement, and believing in your child

From birth to age 5 children’s brains develop more than in any other period of life. Rachel uses your real life examples of what is going on in your home so you can get your questions answered, move through your challenges, and learn what it is your children are really trying to tell you, so you can give them what they need.

In partnership with St. John's Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Dr. Kathleen Logan, MD

Rachel Wigglesworth, M.S., M.Ed.

Rachel has a master’s degree in wildlife biology and studied coyotes and wolverines in Jackson, WY. She became a doula, supporting women and families through childbirth and labor, and during the prenatal and postpartum period. As a parent, she became fascinated with how children develop and how life experiences lead to the adults that children become. She pursued a master’s degree (M.Ed.) in Family Education with a Teaching Certificate in Parenting Education from the University of Minnesota. Rachel created Growing Great Families and is excited to teach about parenting, child development, and the brain, with the goal of supporting parents through the joys and challenges of raising children.
