Raising Teens

  • Categories: Class

About This Event

A six-week class presented by St. John's

Positive experiences and relationships from birth through the teen years are essential in helping adolescents develop into healthy, thriving adults. Parents/caregivers play the most important role in guiding a child to adulthood, yet raising teens can be filled with questions and challenges. Healthy self-esteem comes in part from the ability to develop a sense of personal power, but how do we balance our teens’ needs for independence and autonomy with their tendency toward novelty seeking and risky behavior in today’s fast paced world?

Class topics will include:

  • The emotional world of parenting: Our teen’s strong emotions and our strong reactions
  • Teen Development, Brain Development and Emotional Health
  • The Relationship: Trust, Independence, Parenting Styles, & Boundaries
  • Raising an Adult: Self-Esteem, Identity Development, & Building Competency
  • The Social Life of Teens: Social Pressure, Digital Media, & Risky Behavior

Rachel uses your real life examples of what is going on in your home so you can get your questions answered, move through your challenges, and learn what it is your teens are really trying to tell you so you can support them in their journey toward adulthood.

In partnership with St. John's Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Dr. Kathleen Logan, MD
