Living Center earns 5-star CMS rating, lauded by Mountain Pacific

Living Center earns 5-star CMS rating, lauded by Mountain Pacific

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has once again given St. John’s Living Center an overall five-star rating, a distinction earned by fewer than ten percent of nursing home facilities in the nation. The Living Center also scored five stars in each of the three sources that contribute to the overall five-star rating: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. St. John’s Living Center was the only nursing home in Wyoming and one of only two nursing homes in a 200-mile radius to earn five stars in each of the sub-categories.

“Earning five stars in each of the three rigorous categories that make up CMS’s overall five-star rating is a testament to our physicians and staff, who provide high quality, safety-oriented services,” said St. John’s CEO Paul Beaupré, MD.

The three sub-categories draw information from thousands of data points. The health inspections rating contains information from the past three years of onsite inspections, including standard surveys and complaint surveys. The staffing rating has information about the number of hours of care provided on average to each resident each day by nursing staff, taking into consideration the differences in the levels of residents' care need in each nursing home. The quality measure rating takes into account information on 11 different physical and clinical measures for nursing home residents.

"This is our very visible ‘report card’ and a testament to our sustained commitment to the community and the residents in our care by providing quality, compassionate care,” said Malenda Hoelscher, executive director of senior living at St. John’s Medical Center. “It is our goal to sustain our 5-star rating in every category, especially as we look to the future with our new facility."

Another quality control agency, Mountain-Pacific Quality Health, awarded the Living Center the 2017 Recognition of Quality Achievement Award for outstanding performance in effectively using quality assurance performance improvement methodologies to improve care practices. St. John’s Living Center was also recognized for strong leadership support for providing quality care. Awardees are required to be in good standing with Wyoming’s regulatory agency for licensing and certification--the Office of Healthcare Licensing and Survey--and must demonstrate quality improvement successes.
