St. John’s Health Birth Center achieves Maternal Levels of Care Designation

Obstetrical care in Jackson just keeps getting better.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recently awarded St. John’s Health (SJH) its Maternal Levels of Care Designation, a national recognition program that classifies birth facilities by their capacity to care for mothers with varying levels of medical complexity, from routine deliveries to high-risk pregnancies. The designation signals that a facility has met rigorous, standardized criteria for staffing, equipment, and clinical protocols, building on SJH’s recognition as a High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care by U.S. News & World Report for 2026. They are currently the only hospital in Wyoming that receives this verification.

At SJH’s state-of-the-art birth center, expecting parents can look forward to compassionate medical support through labor and delivery, as well as the highest standard of care from expert physicians, certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and International Board Certified Lacation Consultants.

“This program really plays an important role in raising the standard of care nationwide,” said Beverly Boyce, manager of the Birth Center at SJH. “With us being in such close proximity to maternity care deserts, there’s even more reason for us to level up, making sure we’re always providing the highest standard of care.”

Boyce added that the facility was already largely meeting the standards evaluated by reviewers, and that preparing for the designation helped formalize practices the team had long been following.

“We’ve always been a really strong team,” Boyce said. “We have strong providers and incredibly intelligent, capable nurses. Over the last decade, we’ve been able to grow our own nurses so we’re less reliant on nurses coming from elsewhere. By investing in individuals who already live here, we strengthen workforce stability and build on existing community connections. We also work constantly to research and stay as updated as possible.”

The team at SJH works with each client to understand their birthing goals, address concerns, and answer questions along the way. Together, they build a personalized birthing plan tailored to each individual’s needs.
