Low Fiber Diet & Medication

A low fiber/low residue diet consists of avoiding foods high in fiber such as nuts, seeds, granola, and whole grain. Below is a list of options to help you while preparing for your diet change 4 days prior to your procedure. Following these guidelines to the best of your ability allows for an easier and more effective prep.

Enriched white bread, rolls, muffins, biscuits, waffles, French toast, pancakes
White rice, noodles pasta Cooked, peeled potatoes
Cream of wheat, grits, puffed rice, corn flakes, Special K Plain crackers, pretzels
Whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, pumpernickel, cornbread, any bread WITH nuts/seeds/fruits
Brown rice, wild rice, kasha, quinoa Potatoes WITH skin
Bran, whole grain cereals, oatmeal, cereals WITH nuts/fruits/coconut,
Whole wheat crackers, popcorn
Strained fruit juice, cooked or canned fruits without skins or seeds, ripe banana, honeydew melon, cantaloupe
Prunes/prune juice, raw/dried fruit/raisins Berries, grapes, pears, apples.
Milk – plain or flavored, Yogurt, custard, ice cream, Cheese, cottage cheese
Yogurt WITH nuts or seeds
Strained vegetable juice, WELL COOKED vegetables, tomato sauce
Raw or steamed vegetables, vegetables WITH seeds, sauerkraut
Cooked peas, winter squash, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, onions, cauliflower, corn, spinach, lettuce, artichoke, edamame.
Ground beef, lamb, ham, veal, pork, fish, poultry, organ meets, eggs

Note: please notify your doctor's office if you have had barium (oral or enema) within 1 week of your procedure. If you have, you will need to reschedule your procedure.

Blood Thinners

Some medications and supplements are known to increase the risk of bleeding and should be avoided prior to your procedure. If you take any of these medications, talk with your surgeon and prescribing physician regarding if it is appropriate to hold them prior to your procedure.
